Act Early If You Have a Concern

What Can I Do If I'm Concerned About My Child's Development?

Talk to your child's doctor.

Share your concerns and ask about developmental screening.

If you or the doctor are still concerned, call one of the programs that offer developmental evaluation and services:

For children 0-3 years old, contact Strong Start at 202-727-3665.

If your child is 3-5 years old, contact Early Stages at 202-698-8037 or email referrals@earlystagesdc.org.

If your child is over 5 years old, contact the Division of Specialized Instruction at

DC Public Schools (DCPS) at 202-442-9929.

Learn about community resources that can help you support your child's development.

Browse our "Parent Resources" page to learn more about organizations that strive to support parents and caregivers! Every Tuesday, we also post about these helpful resources on our Facebook and Twitter pages!

Here are some tips on how to talk with your child's doctor (in English & Spanish).
